This Week's Highlights:

Superhero Bootcamp in BVIS

On Wednesday, all EYFS children had a SUPER-rific morning in BVIS! When we arrived, we were greeted by the lovely EYFS students and teachers from BVIS. Altogether, the children from both campuses sang a superhero song. There were lots of brilliant singing and dancing. The children then had a go at playing in the big field to explore the superhero 'training camp' and also had the opportunity to play in the EYFS outdoor area. It was lovely to see everyone mingling and exploring a new environment. Thank you to all parents for dressing up your children with their favourite superhero characters.

The Little Red Hen
In F2 this week, we continue to focus on the Little Red Hen story. A lot of children did a fantastic job in helping the little red hen make some bread! In return, each of them had a slice of the little red hen's very tasty bread-- they all loved it!

Notices:

Kimberly's uniform - Please check the labels in your child's uniform. A complete set of school uniform has been removed from Kimberly's bag and we would very much like to give it back to them.

All About Me Bag – Please ask your child to choose only 1 item to put in the All About Me Bag. The carpet session when we share this is designed around encouraging questioning and talking, sharing what is special to us.

Swimming- Please DO NOT forget to bring your child's swimming kit every Mondays and Thursdays. If your child is UNABLE to swim, please provide us with a medical certificate.

Enjoy the photos!

Newsletter 17.02.17

This week in F2 the children have been making some interesting observations, looking closely at germinating seeds and watching them grow like magic beans!  The children have been experimenting with using a magnifying glass to enlarge objects, getting an extra close look at bugs, leaves and soil.

Outside, in the Fundino playground and splash pool, children have been investigating the concept of floating and sinking and the many different uses we have for water; as a substitute for paint, in the sandpit, the mud kitchen, watering plants and cleaning vehicles. We have also been revisiting some of our favourite Sports Day races (running and jumping).

The children have been exploring a variety of themes that have emerged from The Little Red Hen. Our Literacy aim is that the children will be able to retell the story, including it's key elements. The children have enjoyed using the animals and farm set up in our tuff spot to talk about The Little Red Hen. It is great to see them identifying key characters and beginning to retell events from the story. All the children were then asked to have a go at drawing the story and using their drawing to tell Ms Precious what was happening.
You might like to ask your daughter or son to tell you the story at home, if they struggle you could use some pictures to help.

How to Help at Home

Books - Please share books with your child every day, there are clear links between exposure to stories and success with reading and comprehension as children progress through school. If you are struggling, please talk to one of the teachers for tips about making story time fun at home.

Manners – The children know the words ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ we insist on hearing these in school, please do the same at home and it won’t take long for it to become second nature.  This is part of our School Aid Memoir, respect.

Self care – With a few coughs and colds about we are teaching the children to ‘catch’ their cough (in their elbow) to help minimise the spread of germs.

Notices:

Missing uniform - Please check the labels in your child's uniform. A complete set of school uniform has been removed from one of our students bags and we would very much like to reunite it with its owner.

All About Me Bag – Please ask your child to choose only 1 item to put in the All About Me Bag. The carpet session when we share this is designed around encouraging questioning and talking, sharing what is special to us.

Superhero Boot Camp – Please the poster attached. If you have further questions please talk to one of the teachers.

Coffee Morning – Behaviour Management. This will be led by Mr Steve and Ms Clarissa, our Learning Support team. We highly recommend you attend this session as we know that Parenting is the hardest job of all!

Swimming  - We will be swimming on Monday and Thursday. With coughs and colds doing the rounds, please be reminded that all children are presumed fit for swimming if they are at school. If your child is not swimming they must have a doctor’s note.  This is a school policy, is it not up to teacher’s discretion. Please talk to Ms Mary or Mr Ian if you have any questions about this.

Library – Please return books each Tuesday. Children who are unable to choose a new book on Wednesday are devastated when the teacher has to say they cannot choose a book to take home. It’s very difficult for all involved when a library session ends in tears, so PLEASE return books on time.

Bugs and other interesting things found in nature – We are looking closely at things found in nature. If you happen to come across anything that is interesting to look at during your weekend adventures, we would appreciate having a look at school. E.g. Bugs, interesting leaves, pine cones, strangely shaped rocks etc.

Subject:  BIS HCMC Parent Satisfaction Survey 2017- Reminder

Dear parents,

Thank you to those parents who have already completed the annual Parent Satisfaction Survey.  We are very pleased that to-date, one third of our parents have responded.   We are very keen to receive feedback from all our parents.

There are only 6 days before the survey closes.  If you have not done so already, we encourage you to take the time to fill out the 15-minute survey which is available in 18 languages.  All responses will be anonymous and each family needs to respond only once on behalf of all your children.

Your feedback is essential in creating the best learning environment for your child, as your responses will inform us on how we can continue to improve your child’s overall learning experience. The more parents we hear from, the more confident we can be that our action plans respond to your views.

Please click on the LINK to access the survey.

Thank you again for your continued support and feedback. We look forward to hearing your responses.

Kind regards,

Tim Deyes
